#1 stretching ‘canvas’

I’ve recently had a Creative Scotland funding application approved by DVACA.

Yay.

If you are unfamiliar with my work, I don’t use ‘canvas’. Instead, I stretch fabric over a traditional wooden frame as a starting point for my paintings.

Through eight years of experimentation, I have identified a few ‘musts’ for prospective painting material, but this funding will enable me to research beyond what is most affordable.

In the coming months, I will be working closely with The Fabric Mill at Halley Stevensons (Dundee, Scotland) to develop a cohesive body of work that fully acknowledges the use of fabric as a surface in my paintings.

I want to use this blog to record my funded research, but also to share little bits of my painty world. It would be great to hear from other people who love paint too.

To start, here’s a video of me making one of my ‘canvases’…
